FAWiki:Rules

From Fire Alarm Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search
These are the official rules and guidelines for the Fire Alarm Wiki. Only administrators can edit this page.

There are two words that can sum up an entire list of rules: COMMON SENSE. If you use it, you'll be fine. Here are some basic rules to follow:

Contents

General Rules

Vandalism

When editing a page, please only make constructive edits. Doing stuff like completely blanking pages, deleting sections, and other unconstructive edits are considered vandalism. Unconstructive edits will be reverted.

Relevancy

When creating a page, please make sure that it is relevant and deals with life safety systems. Please do not create pages that resemble personal websites, message boards, classified ads, etc. The same rules should be followed when uploading files.

Profanity

Please refrain from using profanity in articles. If profanity is found, it will most likely be removed and replaced with more acceptable and appropriate language.

Innapropriate Material

Posting vulgar, disturbing, or sexually oriented content will not be tolerated and will result in a block, no matter what the circumstance.

Harassment and Intimidating Behavior

Attacking other wiki users, hate speech, insults, slander, and smear campaigns will not be tolerated. If there is a disagreement, please use a civilized manner to settle it. It's okay to have a negative discussion, but simply trying to pick a fight or blow off steam is unacceptable.

Spam and Advertising

Please do not post spam, advertisements, or solicitation on the Fire Alarm Wiki. This also includes pyramid schemes, chain letters, contests, surveys, hoaxes, referrals, donation requests, etc. Links to personal websites and YouTube accounts are not permitted outside of userpages.

Spelling/Grammar

Please try to use proper spelling and grammar when creating and editing your pages. No one wants to decipher texting language or leet speak. Your spelling and grammar reflects your intelligence, so make sure to check for errors before publishing.

Talk and discussion pages

The rules above also apply to the talk and discussion pages. Flaming or trolling on the talk pages won't be tolerated.

Registration Rules

Sockpuppet Accounts

Sockpuppet accounts (multiple accounts run by the same person) are not allowed. If you have forgotten your username or password, please do not create another account. Instead, use the "email new password" utility on the login page, or contact a wiki administrator.

Username

Your username must be appropriate. Obscenity, profanity, and impersonating someone you are not are prohibited.

Validity of Information

Your email address and real name must be valid. Please note that this information is solely for the reference of administrators and will not be given out to anyone whatsoever.

Other Things To Keep In Mind

Accuracy of Information

Because the Fire Alarm Wiki deals with life safety systems, the absolute accuracy of information shared here is imperative, and any false or unclear information could be potentially dangerous and may put lives at risk. Basically, if you're not sure, don't post it. This wiki is primarily intended for the casual hobbyist, and we do not recommend that fire alarm professionals heed advice or instructions given here. Remember that anyone can edit and make changes to this site, and all information is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate, though we try to do our best to ensure the validity of information. Like Wikipedia, this site is not intended to be a primary resource by any means.

Deletion

Pages that violate rules and contain no redeeming qualities may be tagged with a deletion tag. DO NOT remove the tag once it has been placed on a page. An administrator will review the page to see if it is worthy of deletion. If it is, the administrator will delete the page. If it is not, the administrator will remove the tag. If you are confused as to why the page has been tagged for deletion, you may appeal the deletion on the "Discussion" page. Before an administrator deletes a page, all appeals and oppositions will be thoroughly read. Please don't take it personally if your page gets tagged for deletion. Everyone makes mistakes. However, don't recreate a deleted page unless you have consulted with an administrator.

Cleanup Tags

If a page requires work, a cleanup tag may be placed on the page. It will most likely state what needs to be fixed. These tags are simply suggestions, and are nothing mandatory. Again, don't take it personally. All it means is that a user thinks the article can use some work. The tags can be removed if it is agreed that the article does not need the work specified.

List of All Tags

For a list of all cleanup and deletion tags, goto FAWiki:Tags. Please use the sandbox if you would like to experiment with them.

Userpages

Your userpage (User:insert_username_here) is essentially your profile page on the Fire Alarm Wiki. You may post pictures, "about me" sections, links to personal websites and YouTube accounts, etc. However, your userpage must still abide by the Fire Alarm Wiki rules. Profanity, hate speech, and inappropriate content will not be tolerated.

Blocking/Banning Policies

If a rule is violated, you will most likely receive a warning on your talk page or be blocked from editing for a certain period of time. If the violation continues, you may be blocked permanently. If you're on a shared IP, such as a school, library, or computer lab, you may find that you are automatically blocked. Logging in with an account can override this. If you are unsure of why you were blocked from editing, please contact an administrator.
