As some of you have probably already noticed, most of the individual forums have changed names, been moved around and had some new ones pop up.
When DavidsonFireAlarms.com Forums was launched in mid-2009, the idea behind the forum was to address a problem.. the web lacked a place for professional discussion in the fire alarm industry. We expected the forum to grow with many members that had jobs in the fire alarm industry as well as a few hobbyists here and there. However.. just the opposite has happened. We have far more hobbyists than people in the industry. While it's not a horribly bad thing, and probably my fault at the way the board was presented to everyone. Over the past few months, myself and the rest of the staff has decided to aim the board more to people in the industry. This does not mean that hobbyists are no longer welcome here. You still have a great place to chat about fire alarms, it is now just separated and more organized from professional discussion. So now that we have that cleared out of the way.. I'll continue with what has changed and how you will need to utilize the changes.
One new section added is titled "Professional Fire Alarm Discussion". This is a place for those in the fire alarm industry to chat, not for hobbyists. This section is where those in the industry can discuss fire alarm systems, devices, issues with systems and devices, even post photos of their work or other people's mistakes! Pretty much anything that has to do with commercial fire alarm systems from a work standpoint can go in there. We don't necessarily mind if hobbyists with an extensive knowledge with systems replies to posts here, but please don't start topics or bother the professionals.
Another big change is the "Hobbyist Discussion" section. The only things here that has changed is the names of the individual boards. "Fire Alarm Media" board has been renamed to "Hobbyist Media". "General Fire Alarm Discussion" has been renamed to "Hobbyist Discussion". Anybody, even those in the industry are free to post here.
The "Fire Alarm Marketplace" boards have been separated and put off to itself.
That's about all that's been changed for now. Hopefully everything will work as planned and the original idea for the forum will start to come into play soon. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave a reply.
Thanks for being a member of the forum!
